Coffee

There are numerous legends of how the invigorating effect of coffee was discovered. In fact, it was quite simple. The coffee tree came to other countries from Ethiopia. It got its name from the province of its origin, Kafa. Ethiopians have been using coffee leaves and beans for food long before it became known to Europeans. They added coffee beans to their meal because they have notices its bracing effect.

The first attempts of preparing coffee consisted in infusing beans in water. However, later they tried to grind and roast them. The drink was used as a tonicizing medical drug.

Muslims used coffee instead of religious wine, consuming it during their prayers. The first coffee houses where pilgrims could have a rest appeared in Mecca as early as in the 15th century. But soon men began gathering in coffee houses to play chess and other games, smoke and spend their time, so mullahs put a ban on coffee houses and coffee consumption. The ban did not last for long - Muslims were now too addicted to coffee and even rulers consumed the drink, so the tradition was revived.

Nowadays, no home can be imagined without coffee, even in our country. Any person keeps a can or pack of instant of ground coffee in their house. It is an excellent morning remedy that helps one wake up, feel appetite for life, uplift the spirit and go to work full of vigor.
